Chulucana pottery is handmade with clay mined from Mount Vicus (Piura, Peru). The clay is then mixed with water coming from melted snow and desert sand. Pieces of pottery are created with natural materials that are mixed with soil and applied to the surface of each piece. To create the black color on the pieces, smoke from burning mango leaves and wood is used.
